Raku and Alternative Firing with Dee Dee Mangum Choose a single day or come for the weekend Saturday September 26 10am - 4pm: Naked Raku, Saggar and Fuming with Ferrick Chloride Sunday September 27 10am - 4pm: Copper, Fuming with stanous chloride and horse hair/terra sigalatta and micas A full day of alternative firing with artist Dee Dee Mangum will include all the favorites! *Bring up to 8 pots but avoid extra tall or extra wide - no taller than 6 inches and no wider than 6 inches *Bring a dish to share for lunch - studio will have snacks, coffee and water. *Event is entirely outside and is HANDS ON - wear suitable clothing. Dee Dee Mangum is a master ceramics artist and educator living in Montgomery Texas. Dee is the potter-in-residence for Sam Houston Memorial Museum and Republic of Texas Presidential Library with work on display and in use in the museum's exhibits, historic homes, kitchen, and gift shop. Her works focus on how art and functionalism intersect. Dee utilizes classic forms in conjunction with surface design and firing techniques reminiscent of the southern alkaline-glazed stoneware tradition influenced by Edgefield Pottery names as Landrum, Chandler, Rhodes, Dave Drake, Miles, and C.A. Haun. Her work blends functional forms with historic decorative patterns and motifs combined with elements of nature ranging from period utilitarian ware to ritualistic objects, funerary vessels, and for worship and meditation. Dee holds a Bachelors of Applied Science and teaching certification in Industrial Technology from Sam Houston State University. Dee apprentices under Randy Brodnax focusing on alternative gas fired kiln design, raku firing and glazing techniques. Dee teaches classes and workshops at Third Coast Clay Houston and Jump Into Art Studios.
