Class Description

Art Basics: Draw–Paint–Play with Marie Blocker Fridays | 12 noon–1:30pm | October 2–30 5 class sessions Explore your creativity in this beginner-friendly art series led by artist Marie Blocker. Each month is a standalone program, so students can join for one month or continue building their skills through future sessions. Weekly lessons combine drawing, acrylic painting, watercolor, and mixed media. October focuses on Simple Landscapes, with projects featuring easy hills and skies, views through a window, and urban sketches of charming, wonky buildings. Students will learn drawing and painting fundamentals, simple composition, basic color theory and mixing, and techniques for creating dimension with light and shadow. Marie’s step-by-step approach makes the class welcoming for beginners while offering plenty of creative practice for intermediate artists. The focus is on experimenting, building skills, and having fun without worrying about perfection. Play with different materials, try new techniques, and simply enjoy making art! All supplies and a sketchbook are provided. Students are also welcome to bring favorite pens, pencils, or other drawing tools. Monthly Themes: September explores flowers and nature; October features simple landscapes; November focuses on abstract and whimsical art play; and December brings cozy still-life projects inspired by everyday objects.
